HISTORY

In the history of the sea and in its future

In 1973, the artisan consortium CAR.TUBI was established, the first type of consortium formed by artisans in the province of Trieste. The consortium’s activity, mainly directed towards shipbuilding, continued until 1988, when the various artisans who had formed the consortium decided to join as partners in the establishment of Cantieri Navali Cartubi Srl, which would find its operational headquarters in the area of the former Giuliano Naval Shipyard in Molo F.lli Bandiera in Trieste.

In 1998, Cantieri Navali Cartubi Srl and Mr. Franco Giovanni established Nuovo Arsenale Triestino Srl. Cartubi company subscribed to the majority of the shares, thus becoming the controlling entity of the newly established company.

Nuovo Arsenale Triestino Srl aims to refurbish the old shipyard of the former Arsenale Triestino S.Marco, which was decommissioned by Fincantieri, in order to revive the shipbuilding tradition of Trieste.

During 1998, the workshop building for mechanical operations and the one for welding, along with the adjacent slipway, were acquired and refurbished for the company’s typical activities. Due to the significant workload and to expand its operations by acquiring new contracts, in 2002, Nuovo Arsenale Triestino purchased an adjacent industrial building on the same site.

In 2005, Cantieri Navali Cartubi merged with Nuovo Arsenale Triestino through fusion, strategically aligning and integrating the activities of the two companies, thereby penetrating the naval shipbuilding sector with greater competitiveness, while still maintaining activities in the civil and industrial plant engineering sectors.
